Do I have to take the civic exam?

If you are a non-EU national applying for a carte de séjour pluriannuelle (CSP), a carte de résident (10 years), or French naturalisation, yes — as of 1 January 2026. The exam must be passed before submitting your application. Age exemptions apply: 65+ for the carte de résident; 70+ with 15 years of legal residence for naturalisation. No age exemption exists for the CSP.

What is the passing score?

You need 32 correct answers out of 40 (80%) to pass. The difficulty level of the questions varies by permit type: standard level for the CSP, B1 French for the carte de résident, and B2 French for naturalisation. An attestation obtained for the carte de résident is also valid for the CSP — but not the other way around. Attestations do not expire.

Is the exam free?

Yes. The civic exam is part of the 24-hour civic training (4 days) organised by OFII, which is free for candidates. This training platform has a one-time fee, but the OFII process itself has no cost.

What happens if I fail?

You will need to retake the exam before you can submit your residency application. We strongly recommend completing the full training cycle on QuizCivique before your exam date — the 80% passing threshold is demanding.

When and where do I take the exam?

The exam concludes the mandatory 24-hour civic training (4 days) organised by OFII. It must be completed before you submit your residency permit application. The venue is an OFII centre assigned to you — you cannot choose it yourself.

No. QuizCivique is an independent training platform. We are not affiliated with OFII or the French government. All exam content is based on official OFII study materials, but results here have no official standing.

Can I train specifically for my permit type?

Yes. The question bank is split by permit type: Carte de séjour pluriannuelle (CSP, standard level), Carte de résident (B1 level), and Naturalisation (B2 level). When you start a training session, you select which track to focus on — so you only practice the questions relevant to your actual exam. You can also train across all types at once.

The interface and the whole question bank are translated into English, Chinese (Mandarin), Arabic, Spanish (Latin America), Portuguese (Brazil) and French. The exam itself is always in French — our difficulty levels let you bridge the gap progressively, from questions and answers in your language up to full French mode. If your language is missing, vote for it from your account: we can add a new one quickly.

How does the adaptive learning engine work?

Questions you answer incorrectly appear more often in future sessions. Once you consistently get a question right, it fades out. The system continuously adjusts to your weak spots without any manual configuration.

Yes. The platform is fully responsive and works on any modern smartphone or tablet browser. No app download required.

No. Access is a one-time payment with no subscription and no expiry. Once you pay, your account and question bank are yours to use for as long as you need.
